ArmSoM's Forge1 Looks Like A Versatile Solution for Embedded and Multimedia Applications

ArmSoM's latest offering is an industrial-grade SBC.

ArmSoM offers development boards and embedded solutions based on RockChip ARM processors for a wide range of use cases, be it multimedia, IoT, AI, or any other embedded application.

Their products cater to a range of industries, including robotics, automotive, smart devices, and industrial automation.

They have recently unveiled their newest offering. So, let's dig in.

📝 ArmSoM Forge1: Key Specifications

ArmSoM mentions that the Forge1 is an industrial-grade board that has been tailored for embedded applications. Thanks to the hardware on-board, it can be used to run demanding applications like audio processing, voice interaction, image output processing, and more.

Announcing this board, ArmSoM stated that:

Our team has been working closely with industrial clients, understanding their need for robust hardware that can withstand harsh conditions and long operational hours. The Forge series embodies our commitment to innovation and quality, providing solutions that are both durable and adaptable.

As for the specifications of the Forge1, it is powered by a RK3506J SoC, which features a triple-core RK3506 Cortex-A7 implementation, a 2D graphics engine, and embedded 2D acceleration. Then comes the 512 MB of DDR3L RAM, 512 MB of NAND, support for a microSD card, and a Buildroot-powered Linux operating system.

To support all that, there are many useful ports and interfaces:

  • Power: 12V DC, 2A
  • Networking: 1x 100 Mbps Port
  • Audio: 1x Speaker, 1x Microphone
  • Video: 1x MIPI DSI (2-Lane @ 1.5Gbps)
  • USB: 1x Type C (for PD & programming)

Mass production of Foreg1 will start in April. Some samples are available for purchase as of now.

The Forge1 can be sourced from the official website, where it is priced at $23 (excl shipping). You can also get it from AliExpress and Taobao, but the pricing will vary.
