Kendall Nelson, Upstream Developer Advocate at the Open Infrastructure Foundation, shares her views on openEuler and OpenStack.
As It's FOSS was closely following the recently concluded openEuler Summit, we are bringing a few conversations that shed lights on the openEuler and its contribution to open source.
This is the second of the four interviews that has been prepared together with openEuler's support.
Kendall Nelson is an Upstream Developer Advocate at the Open Infrastructure Foundation based in the United States. She shares here views at the recently concluded openEuler summit 2024.
Every day as a senior Upstream developer Advocate is different. I do a lot of different things from developing contributor documentation to working with universities to get more students involved in open source. I get to help build relationships with organizations and foundations like the OpenAtom Foundation and work with projects from all over the world like openEuler. It's a lot of fun that every day is different.
The Open Infrastructure blueprint white paper focuses on the different ways that you can use Kubernetes along with OpenStack on a Linux based operating system and openEuler is a great example of one of the Linux based operating systems that is compatible in this stack.
We see that it's very important to be able to use open source from top to bottom and it's an important and very valuable use case for many different Industries. So being able to see that openEuler is continuing to integrate with OpenStack and is focused on making that a seamless integration is really important and a good way to set an example for other operating systems.
The current development of openEuler has been really impressive especially from our perspective at the Open Infrastructure Foundation. Seeing how much they've grown in adoption over the last 5 years has been amazing. In particular, the market share that openEuler has achieved in terms of Open Source operating systems has been spectacular. I am interested to learn more about what they have planned for the future and I think it's on a a very good trajectory.
I think openEuler has a lot of value to bring to the global market. I think that its focus on integrating with OpenStack definitely sets it apart from other open- source operating systems. And I think that there are more opportunities for growth globally. We have tried to help promote openEuler as much as possible to our users and our community but I think there's still more education that we can do because there are areas that haven't heard of openEuler and don't know how beneficial it can be so definitely a lot more work to do but a lot of good growth has happened already.
openEuler is a Linux based operating system, open source, and a new option for the world. I would love to come to next year's event and continue to see how openEuler continues to grow and evolve with the global community and its market. Happy birthday openEuler congratulations on 5 years of development and growth as a community and project.
