COSMIC Alpha 5: The Evolution of System76's Desktop Continues!
System76's COSMIC desktop is making good progress!
Proton Drive provides a highly secure collaboration experience with these new feature additions.
We have plenty of great cloud services on Linux, which offer lots of storage, native clients, a high degree of flexibility, and most important of all, security.
One of those options is Proton Drive, which is a relatively new offering when compared to others, but one that has managed to amass a significant user base thanks to its privacy-first approach.
Continuing the flow of updates to the service, Proton has now introduced some significant upgrades for business users that focus on catering more effectively to teams working together on projects.
We start things off with the highlight, the Suggesting Mode feature, which opens the way for teams to collaborate in real-time, where members can propose changes to a document without touching the original text.
You can find this feature with Google Docs and a couple of other tools. However, with Proton Drive, all of this is end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and security.
Tracking is made easy, with controls for accepting, rejecting, and modifying suggestions, and there is a version control system in place, that ensures no data is lost due to mishandling, or accidental deletions.
Similarly, there is a new Public Links feature, which facilitates sharing of documents in a secure, yet public manner. The document owner can make the document read only or set a password and expiration date for it.
And, finally, a "Shared with me" feature for Windows users, where the desktop application provides access to all shared files, making it easy for a user to find important files when they need it the most.
With the announcement, Product Lead for Proton Drive, Anant Vijay Singh, added that:
With the latest additions to Proton Drive, we are establishing a new standard for secure collaboration. Suggesting Mode in Docs, the world’s first end-to-end encrypted collaborative editing feature, is specifically designed for business users to protect sensitive insights and comments.
You can get Proton Drive for business from the official website (partner link), if you require help setting it up, then the official guide should be helpful.
