Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices have become the backbone of modern homelabs, serving everything from family photo archives to containerized development environments.

Whether you are bringing together digital memories or managing backups, a capable NAS can be an indispensable tool that organizes scattered data into something that is useful to you.

TerraMaster has carved out a solid reputation in this space, focusing on hardware that balances capability with approachability. You don't need enterprise-level expertise to set up their devices, unlike some other devices on the market.

The company has now announced two new additions to its lineup: the F2-425 Plus and F4-425 Plus, bringing Intel's latest N-series processor and a hybrid storage design.

The F2-425 Plus and F4-425 Plus are hybrid NAS devices that combine traditional hard drive bays with dedicated M.2 SSD slots in a single enclosure. This setup lets you use fast SSDs for caching or as independent storage pools while dedicating HDDs for raw storage capacity, getting the best of both worlds.

Both models share core hardware: an Intel N150 quad-core processor (up to 3.6 GHz), dual 5GbE network interfaces delivering transfer speeds up to 1010 MB/s, and three M.2 slots (supporting up to 8 TB each). The differences lie in scale and configuration.

The F2-425 Plus features a 3+2 bay design (three M.2 + two HDDs), 8 GB of DDR5 memory, and supports up to 84 TB of hybrid storage. It's positioned as the entry point for home users and small offices stepping into serious network storage.

The F4-425 Plus ups the ante with a 3+4 bay configuration (three M.2 + four HDDs), 16 GB of DDR5 memory, and expandable storage up to 144 TB. This model targets power users, content creators, and businesses juggling heavier workloads and multi-user access.

Each HDD bay supports drives up to 30 TB, and TerraMaster's proprietary TRAID technology claims to boost read/write speeds by 30% while enhancing data reliability. When paired with the USB expansion ports, the storage possibilities are something else.

TerraMaster equips both devices with TOS 6 as the operating system, BBS as the integrated backup solution for enterprise-grade data protection, and local AI photo management that recognizes faces, pets, and scenes.

Other than that, here’s an overview of the ports and interfaces shared by the devices:

  • USB: 2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
  • Display: 1 × HDMI 2.0 port (supports up to 4K @ 60 Hz output)
  • Weight: F2-425 Plus – 2.2 kg | F4-425 Plus – 2.9 kg
  • Misc Features: Smart cooling fan, powerful hardware 4K and 8K transcoding, and hot-swappable drives.
