DeepSeek Support Comes to Warp Terminal

DeepSeek R1 and V3 are now available in Warp Terminal, making AI-powered workflows faster and more efficient.

Warp is a modern, cross-platform terminal that has been designed for speed, reliability, and collaboration. Its features set it apart from traditional terminals, with its AI-powered tools being the most notable ones.

In a recent announcement on X, the Warp team has launched support for the wildly popular DeepSeek family of open source AI models, along with some improvements for the terminal app.

Non-FOSS Alert! Warp is not open source software. We cover it because it is available for Linux.

DeepSeek Comes To Warp: What To Expect?

Warp Terminal's DeepSeek integration on Fedora 41 with DeepSeek R1 being used.

Warp now ships with DeepSeek R1 and DeepSeek V3 integration baked into the Agent Mode of the app, with US-based hosting provided by Fireworks AI powering it.

I took this for a short spin on my Fedora 41 laptop and asked DeepSeek R1 to carry out some tasks. It worked well, but every so often processing would take some time, depending on the complexity of my prompt. That could have happened due to the servers being under load, so I guess that's okay.

As a side note, if you are looking to run DeepSeek locally on your Linux machine, then we have a detailed guide that will take you through the setup process.

Other than the newly added DeepSeek support, there are a few under-the-hood changes that improve Warp as part of the 2025.01.29 release.

There are changes like Agent Mode now being able to auto-execute read-only requested commands, a fix for a bug that caused double-clicking to select an incorrect range of text, and the ability to use the “J” and “K” keys to navigate up/down in Warp Drive.

Get Warp

Those looking to take this newly added support for a run can do so by downloading the latest release of Warp from the official website (partner link) for Linux and macOS.

Users on Windows will have to sign up for a waitlist, as Warp is still under development for that platform.

If you need help after installing, you can look at the documentation, and for existing users, Warp should automatically update at startup. If it doesn't, then you can refer to the upgrade guide.
