12 Days of Tuxmas: Day 6

Yes, you can write on It's FOSS, too!

Did you ever feel like, 'Hey, I could write something like that' while reading It's FOSS? Now, you can do that.

With the Community submission program, you can contribute to It's FOSS occasionally or regularly.

This is not entirely a new thing, as we have been publishing community submitted articles occasionally in the past as well. Here is the latest example.

Vi Editor Basics: Must Know Commands
Here are the absolute basic commands you need to navigate through the Vi editor in the command line.

But starting 2025, we want to highlight this program and make it an integral part of It's FOSS.

Why? Because although we cover a lot of things on our own, we cannot discover and cover everything. As an ardent Linux user, you may know some cool tricks based on your experience, or some recent troubleshooting taught you something new. You love an obscure distro or application and want to share your experience with it. These things can be shared with other readers of It's FOSS.

Here's the workflow:

  • Propose your topic using community submission form
  • If your topic is accepted, you'll be given a guideline to follow writing the article
  • Your article will be edited and shared with you before publishing for your approval
  • Once everything is set, your article will be scheduled to be published

As a token of appreciation, you'll get US $2 per 100 words, excluding command outputs. I know it's not a lot, but it's a way for us to thank you for your contribution. You have the option to either receive the payment via PayPal or allow us to donate it to your preferred open source project (to avoid multiple transaction fees).

📋
Please note that we won't accept and publish every topic. Propose your topic first, when we mutually agree on the topic and its content, then the writing begins. Some articles will be published on itsfoss.com, some on news.itsfoss.com and some may even go on itsfoss.community

Technical writing is not as easy as it sounds but it is not impossible. The Community program enables you to share your knowledge occasionally. You don't need to commit to a certain number of articles, you don't need to maintain a website. You just share your experience and give back your knowledge to the community. That's the open source spirit, right?

Enjoy the holidays ☃️
