A few dedicated readers have demanded for It's FOSS app for a long time.
But I don't see the usefulness of a dedicated app. And maintaining an Android or iOS app is not an easy task.
However, I understand that a few readers want to stay connected and not miss anything new.
And hence, I have taken the middle ground and added the PWA feature to It's FOSS News.
PWA stands for Progressive Web App. Basically, they are web-based apps that can be used on mobile as well as desktop devices. This is essentially a browser tab masquerading as an app.
But it serves a purpose. It will give you a dedicated icon app to click on and read the latest. I think you also get notified for any new articles although this requires extra work.
So, starting today, you'll have the option to add It's FOSS News as an app when you visit news.itsfoss.com. Most browsers should show this option.
On desktop, you should see this option on the browser address bar.
On your mobile devices, you have to click on the settings of your browser tab and then click on the 'Add to Home Screen' option:
I am working on adding push notifications, too. That will take some time.
Meanwhile, let me know if you want the same with itsfoss.com as well.
Keep on enjoying Tuxmas Days 🎅 🐧
